This is both awesome and kindles a creative spark in my own mind.  The contrast and balance of light and shadow is amazing, not to mention that the phoenix wings look absolutely stunning.  Fantastic job :D

Okay, if a poster version of this won't sell well when you have a table at an art convention, I don't know what will.

The rising phoenix definitely turned out the most eye-catching with this fiery contrast and all these single feathers. And I believe this is the first time I see an anthro phoenix become the feral phoenix, and it looks very nice.

I'm a sucker for contrast things of all kinds in general, that's why I also love how there's this dark-grey-blue environment of ice, snow and night around this bright, hot, fire bird. The way you painted the wings really makes you feel as if there's some sort of heat wave hitting you like an explosion. It's no wonder it instantly makes the ice lake crack under his feet.

Aaah thank you!! :D
Yea it was a such a cool idea to draw!
Was really fun painting the fire part of the phoenix, and trying to figure out how to make the fire and feathers work together.
Ah that's good, I really wanted to show off the extreme fiery heat coming off the phoenix, it is sortof like an explosion in process I guess! :)

Thank you so much though, you comments are the best <3

You're welcome!

I'm curious, how much of all these little image details were wished by the client and how much came from your own creativity? c:

It was a mixture of both really! :) They gave me a really good description of the main idea that they wanted drawn (so a night and snowy scene, silhouette with similar features to the phoenix and in that pose, cracks in the ice in all directions away from the character with a fiery phoenix rising from behind). I came up with the design of the silhouette and phoenix, so the half fire half feather idea for the phoenix was from my own creativity I guess. The general colours as well, I wanted a really strong contrast between the fire/reds and the cold/blues to really emphasize both parts. The general landscape design (stars, embers, clouds etc) was also from my own creativity. But we worked closely together on the design/idea so I could make sure that I was illustrating the idea that they wanted :)
